Do you know what stoop sales are for? Stoop sales are for finding out who—or what—you really love.
Goodbye, Mr. Popper's Penguins! Goodbye, The Secret Life of Bees! Goodbye, weird Nancy Drew book with the hideous cover! We hope you have a happy life somewhere else, with all the discarded deformed Barbies!
Awesome. I can’t get my boys to part with Goodnight Moon yet. And stuffies are definitely not being placed on any stoop. Maybe one day they’ll be willing to say goodbye!
I have a fondness of book covers. I seek out the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that has my childhood book cover. Books are fungible, but certain editions aren’t.

Wait? Ya’ll didn’t like Mr. Popper’s Penguins?
I’m not going to confess to how many books we have stored away.

momofboys, then maybe you will love Out of Print clothing as much as I do! (http://outofprintclothing.com/) This is why I’m reading Moby-Dick. I’d always meant to, but when you own a T-shirt of a book you haven’t actually read, it’s so embarrassing that you’re motivated to rectify that post-haste.
I can let most books go, but the kids’ books are tough, because I have so many memories attached to them–and some board books I love myself. I just made my first cull and am hoping to give most of them away to friends or the library, so that I won’t have to envision them sitting in a neglected heap at Goodwill or whatever. (Plus, our library’s board book collection is really not that impressive, what’s up with that?)

We had a bit of a similar situation with a schoolwide book donation program this week. I was happy to see that the “Black Lagoon” books and “Caps for Sale” could not go away just yet (not quite as pleased with the retention of Pokemon books…)
But – out with some Star Wars storybooks! Some beginning reader movie type drivel. But (gasp!) Amelia Earhart? Really?

It was not I who axed Mr. Popper’s Penguins. It’s more like, The People Have Spoken! And they have said, later for you, Amelia Earhart, et al. I wouldn’t have made the same cuts, but then, I still have Air Force Wives under the bed, so who am I to judge?

This is next on my list of things to clear out of this house. We just went through piles of toys. Now to go through the volumes and volumes of books. I’m glad I have “readers” for kids but it’s getting wacky when you run out of place to put the books. Thanks for the nudge!
